ABOUT GGC

Our Mission
The goal of GGC is to teach gymnastics in a comfortable atmosphere that is enjoyable and fun, yet stresses the importance of progression and striving for excellence. We believe the benefits of our competitive program go beyond physical and competitive aspects. We believe it also teaches:

-Mental discipline -Cooperation and the importance of being a good teammate
-The importance of dedication and commitment
-Goal setting and perseverance in achieving those goals
-That winning can be a goal - just not only, nor is it the most important goal
-How to win and lose with grace and humility

We feel that these aspects will transcend a gymnast's participation on the team, and will become successful attributes they will use throughout their lifetime. Through a knowledgeable and caring staff we work to the level of the individual and strive to bring out their potentials as a gymnast and a person. We do not pressure athletes into skills that the gymnast is not physically or mentally ready to perform.

Coach Kevin has been coaching for eight years as the Program Director/Head Coach for the Lakewood Family YMCA/Grace Gymnastics Center, 31 years overall. Kevin competed as a gymnast at Stadium High School.  He Started coaching his senior year and has been coaching ever since.

Coach Kevin was voted Washington State Coach of the Year in 1991.  His greatest joy comes from helping young people mature into strong, confident and well balanced young adults. He is very proud of his role at Grace and feels very blessed to be surrounded by terrific staff, gymnasts, and parents. Kevin is most proud of his beautiful wife (Kelly) and two great kids (Kurtis & Kelcey)!

Linda did gymnastics MANY years ago in high school. When her girls started gym at the Lakewood YMCA she volunteered in their classes. Coach Linda has been a part of this gymnastics program for 16 years. Three of her four daughters have been a part of this amazing team.

Most memorable moment…..When her oldest was 10 she was diagnosed with Leukemia, but the team kept her going, and she competed beam and floor with no hair! She got low scores, but was so proud of herself. Another moment was when Grace won the 2009 YMCA National Championships.

Coach Linda absolutely love coaching level 4 and seeing the joy in these young faces when they achieve their goals. Her hope for the girls is that they learn to trust and believe in themselves, with strong self confidence anything is possible!
Krista Kirkly

Coach Krista has been coaching gymnastics for several years and just recently moved back to Washington after spending the past four years living in Michigan. She was a gymnast YEARS ago and understands the sacrifices gymnasts and their families make. She also has a daughter (Keeley) that is a level 8 gymnast at Grace Gymnastics. Coach Krista looks forward to coaching your girls and watching them grow.

Jen started gymnatics at age six at what was then Washington Gymnastics Training Center (WGTC) in Auburn, WA (which later became Gymnastics Express). She stayed there until about age 12 when her parents moved to Bonney Lake and transferred to Grace Gymnastics. She competed three years of high school gymnastics at Sumner High school, where they took 2nd at state 2 yrs in a row.

Seeing children become successful competitors and young ladies has been such a highlight of coaching for her. All the skills and strengths the sport has given her gave her the passion to promote and keep the sport alive to new and young athletes.

Coach Jen's most memorable moment was the success she had as a team at Crystals as the Level 4 team earned 2nd place at state, and many gymnasts winning indiviual and all-around places at all levels. She is excited to be with Grace Gymnasts again, and to bond and build new memories and successes with each and every child! Go GGC

Coach Evan has been coaching for four years at the YMCA. As a child he did gymnastics for two years competing at Grace, finishing at Level 6. Three years later he returned to the sport as a coach. Ever since he's been coaching at the YMCA. He is glad now to be working at the team level. His hope for the girls is to improve as athletes as well as individuals.

Coach Elizabeth was a gymnast for 10 years competing for eight of those years.  Her goal for her gymnasts is that they always have fun doing this sport, learn how to work hard in order to succeed, and work together as a team.

Coach Lindsay was a gymnast basically her whole life. She started at Mercy Gymnastics and then transfered to Grace Gymnastics in April of 2007. Lindsay ended up quiting about a year and a half later. Less than a year later, she became a coach for Kevin. :)
